Why Richmond Comes First at Bastionpoint
People ask us sometimes why an IT company spends so much time on otter cams, animal shelters, and Toys for Tots. It’s a fair question. The answer is simple: Richmond is where we live, work, and play, and we think that means something.
Bastionpoint didn’t start as a national managed service provider chasing scale for its own sake. We started here, on Hull Street, serving businesses we could drive to in fifteen minutes. That proximity shaped how we think about our work.
When a client calls with a problem, they’re not a ticket number to us. They’re someone we might run into at a Richmond Kickers game or see in line at the grocery store. That changes how you show up.
The Community Work Isn’t a Checkbox
Earlier this year, we had the opportunity to appear on CBS 6’s Virginia This Morning alongside the team at Maymont to talk about our sponsorship of the new live Otter Cam.
Yes, we sponsor an otter cam.
We also donated and installed a $10,000 professional-grade security camera system at the Colonial Heights Animal Shelter at no cost to the shelter. The goal was simple: give the team better tools to deter illegal animal dumping and protect animals waiting for homes. The project was later featured by 12 On Your Side.
Our involvement in Richmond has taken a lot of different forms over the years, including:
- Supporting local nonprofits and community organizations
- Helping protect the Colonial Heights Animal Shelter with donated security cameras
- Partnering with Maymont to bring its Otter Cam to life
- Supporting local sports and community organizations, including the Richmond Kickers
- Hosting and supporting Toys for Tots events and donation drives
None of that moves our sales numbers. We do it because it’s part of who we are, and because we believe a business that only shows up when there’s an invoice to send isn’t really part of a community. It’s just operating inside one.
Why This Matters for How We Serve Clients
Our tagline is “Defend Your Castle. Protect Your Business.” That’s not just a line on a proposal.
Richmond is home to countless small and mid-sized businesses: law firms, medical practices, contractors, and family-owned companies that have built something real here, often over decades. When we protect their networks, we’re not protecting abstract assets.
We’re helping protect:
- The businesses people depend on
- The jobs those businesses have created
- The customer and client relationships they’ve earned
- The reputations they’ve spent years building
- A piece of what keeps Richmond’s economy and community moving
That’s the difference between an MSP that treats every client like a line item and one that treats every client like a neighbor. We’ve chosen the second one, even when it’s slower or harder to scale.
That same philosophy has shaped Bastionpoint since the beginning. We’ve been serving Richmond businesses since 2007 while continuing to invest in partnerships and organizations throughout the community.
Why That Makes Us the Right MSP for Richmond Businesses
Being local isn’t just a feel-good story. It creates a practical advantage for the businesses we serve.
When something breaks at 2 p.m. on a Tuesday, you’re not talking to a call center in another time zone reading from a script. You’re talking to a team that knows Richmond’s business landscape and provides managed IT services for Richmond businesses every day.
We understand that:
- A law firm has different compliance and confidentiality concerns than a construction company
- A medical practice can’t afford interruptions to critical systems or patient workflows
- A contractor working across multiple job sites needs technology that moves with the team
- A family-owned business may care just as much about responsiveness and trust as technical capability
- Downtime means something different depending on how your business operates
We’re not learning those realities from a training manual. We’ve been working alongside Richmond businesses for years.
There’s also an accountability that comes with being known. A national provider can lose a client in Richmond and barely notice. We can’t. Our name is connected to local organizations, nonprofits, community projects, and businesses throughout the region. We’ve talked publicly about that commitment on WTVR, and we continue to invest in Richmond through partnerships with organizations including the Richmond Kickers, Richmond Animal Care & Control, Tech For Troops, and the Richmond Flying Squirrels’ Very Important Veteran program.
If we don’t deliver for the businesses here, that isn’t an anonymous failure happening hundreds of miles away. It’s personal. And it’s local.
That kind of accountability keeps us honest in a way distance never could. And because we’ve built roots here instead of spreading ourselves thin across a dozen markets, we can actually show up, in person, when it counts, not just through a support ticket. That’s the kind of MSP relationship most businesses say they want but rarely get.
Putting Richmond First, on Purpose
Every December, we support Toys for Tots, and every year it reminds our team why we do this. Bastionpoint has hosted local toy drives and community events to help collect donations for children during the holidays.
It’s not because giving back looks good. It’s because Richmond gave us the room to build a business here, and paying that back isn’t optional in our minds. It’s part of the job.
So when people ask why we keep putting Richmond first, the answer is simple: this is our home, too.
We’re not just doing business in this community. We’re part of it.
Work With an IT Partner That’s Invested in Richmond Too
Your IT provider has access to some of the most important systems in your business. They help protect your data, support your employees, keep your network running, prepare you for cyber threats, and step in when something goes wrong. That relationship should feel like more than a vendor contract.
At Bastionpoint, we’ve been serving Richmond since 2007 with a local team that provides fully managed IT, cybersecurity services, helpdesk support, cloud solutions, network infrastructure, backup and recovery, and strategic IT guidance. We combine that local presence with 24/7/365 security monitoring, so Richmond businesses don’t have to choose between responsive hometown service and serious cybersecurity protection.
We’re local enough to understand your business, experienced enough to help protect it, and close enough to show up when remote support isn’t enough.
