Windows Server 2012, and 2012 R2 End of Extended support is approaching per the Lifecycle Policy: Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 Extended Support will end on October 10, 2023.
What this means for you as the end user, decision maker or IT support professional is that you have right at 24 months to budget, prepare, upgrade, replace, or transition software and hardware that may rely on the 2012 or 2012 R2 platform.
If you are currently running either 2012 or 2012 R2, it is best to find out if your mission critical line of business applications can be supported on 2016 (ending in 2027), or 2019. If so, you may only be an upgrade away from smooth sailing into the next few years.

Was it 2016 or later, and we didn’t want to be on the latest untested version? Was it 2016 or prior, and would a new server or a move to a data center or hosted environment be my next best move? (If it was prior, your current hardware is probably out of warranty and coming up on 6 years of age and is pretty close if not already EOL already.)
