As we approach 2023, “of corpse” there is no better time to talk “Graveyard” than the month of October. When it comes to End of Life, most times we are referencing pieces of Microsoft’s ecosystem. Specifically, as they approach what is either called the end of active support. Alternatively, the very end of just security support (security updates for their aging software.) Let’s check in on what’s going End of Life soon.
Software and Operating Platforms Ending:
Windows Server
Earlier this year, Windows Server 2016 went EOL (January 11, 2022) for mainstream support. While some companies are covered with extended support, almost 70% of SMBs are not. This means 7 out of 10 SMBs running Server 2016, should be looking for the latest version of Windows Server.
Microsoft Office
If you’re worried about your versions of Microsoft Office and are still on Office 2013—you may want to be worried more about your sanity! Office 2013 goes completely out of support at the beginning of 2023 while Office 2019 goes from Active to just Security Support. Most organizations have moved over to a 365-subscription plan, and Bastionpoint is more than happy to help your business or non-profit do the same!
Windows OS
As far as the Windows OS goes, you’re good for the next couple of years, unless you are actively running something older than Windows 10. If you are still running XP, ME, Windows 7, or Windows 8—walk don’t run from graveside and work with your IT vendor to get the latest version. Make no bones about it, your security and your data are worth it!
Other Applications
While looking holistically across your footprint, there are many 3rd party and line of business applications that may need to be looked at as well. For instance, your Internet and Phone Contracts.
